Mission statement:
Our cause is to help raise awareness about verbal abuse to children. Verbal abuse can happen to any child and it does happen to many children all around us. We chose this cause because it is near and dear to our hearts. Lots of people we know have been affected by verbal abuse and our group wants to do something about it. Art is used to help this cause by getting people talking and thinking about verbal abuse. We are using art to create a visual representation of what verbal abuse may be. The stop signs created in photoshop are to share a simple statement to "stop abuse" and connecting people to our progress for the project with "#wordsleavewounds". The drawing of two heads will be used to allow others to participate in showing how anyone around us can be affected by verbal abuse. Our goal is to raise awareness for our cause, stopping abuse, and providing help for those who may be experiencing this. The goal is to spread awareness of our cause in multiple classes through the school including some of our own. We also want to have at least 30 people willing to take a picture with our poster, 50 interactions on twitter and 50 likes for our Facebook page. |
Step 1: Stop SignsDay 1: Today we finalized the design for our symbol. We printed out and cut 200 copies of the stop sign design that you see above. After all the stop signs were printed out we walked around the school hallways hanging them up. We managed to hang up about half of the designs before the end of class.
Day 2: Today we learned how to edit a weebly page. We also printed out 80 more stop signs because a lot of them were removed or fell down. However yesterday was a success because walking down the school hallway you could hear people starting to talk about abuse and the stop signs posted everywhere. Yesterday and today combined we hung up or handed out 243 stop signs around the school.
In all we hung up 352 stop signs around the school. This step of the project was very successful.

Step 2: Masked Students
Day 3: Today we created the two masks and started taking pictures of students and faculty. In all we took 30 pictures of different people from around the school holding our posters in support of raising awareness of verbal abuse.
Day 4: Today we took a picture of our high school's principal, Dr. Trachtenbroit holding up a poster in support of raising awareness to stop verbal abuse. We also posted our pictures on social media such as twitter and Facebook.

Step 3: Positive Posters
Day 5: Today we are creating a poster with tear of tabs to hang around the school. This poster is being used to tie pour project up. We included our symbol, the stop sign, along with an image of someone holding up the mask we made, and a promo. to check us out on twitter and Facebook. The tear off tabs that we included are filled with positive words that any one can tear off and take with them.
Day 6: Today we took pictures of some of the signs we put up. And we worked on our final editing for the website. We also have seen some of the tear offs on our positive posters torn off.
