This project/lesson was created by a student art teacher named Ally Carswell. The guidelines of this are as follows:
Students will choose a group member and this pair/group of students will brainstorm a common or mutual cause in their community that they feel strongly about. Once groups brainstorm their cause they will collaborate on how they can use art to help this chosen cause. When the group comes to a decision they will learn about what a mission statement is and write their own stating: what their cause is, why they chose their cause, how they plan on using art to help this issue, and their end goal for helping this cause. Students will have two weeks to achieve their goal as stated in their mission statement. During this time students will keep a blog on their group progress, posting photos and written journals on their group’s activities stating each group member’s part in the process. At the end of the two week period the groups will present to their class and administration their cause, their goal, and if they believe they achieved their goal.
